Red Wharf Bay Vineyard

Red Wharf Bay Vineyard is wonderfully situated overlooking the bay from which it takes its name, in the Traeth Coch Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Isle of Anglesey. I first planted vines in our field here in 2010. I totally mismanaged them, eventually producing a very small amount of unremarkable wine. Then I thought “Wouldn’t it be so much easier to grow grapes somewhere with a bit more sun?” So I had the idea to plant my vineyard in Andalucía, in southern Spain. Thwarted by the Common Agricultural Policy, I came back to Anglesey and learnt how to work in this delightful, infuriating profession properly - but I brought some of Spain back with me! This is the result - a Welsh vineyard conceived in Spain with, believe it or not, a unique wine blended from Spanish and UK grapes. And there's not just wine - Spanish ceramics and leather goods, Anglesey tapas and olive oil (from olives personally harvested) from 100 year old trees. Come visit and hear my story….
